I see nothing written anywhere about the now-discontinued discrete AF Amp. Were there inherent problems with it, or I guess what I'm trying to ask is why was it discontinued?

It was a marketing decision:
1. 386 has more gain range
2. discrete amp had slow sales
3. 386 amp can do what the discrete amp does with more options and greater range specs.
4. The old amp info is still available on the web-site
