Why use teflon wire?

Dumb question time:  when/why is "teflon-coated silver-plated wire" used for toroid winding?  I never see it used for QRP stuff, but have seen it in higher-power designs.  My best guess is that there is less knicking of insulation as the wire is pulled through a sharp-edged toroid.  But I also wondered if ease of winding or thermal properties had anything to do with it.  When would you use teflon over regular magnet wire?

Re: Why use teflon wire?

All the reasons for using teflon wire in high power circuits are also valid for QRP circuits...whatever that means smile
